An Independent Custody Visitor (ICV) is an unpaid member of the public who makes random, unannounced visits to police custody. Custody visits are not conducted alone, but with another ICV. Pairs of volunteers are rostered to cover custody suites in the City of Nottingham and Mansfield.
ICVs are asked to provide an impartial view of the welfare of detainees, checking that their rights and entitlements have been offered. ICVs are also able to report on the condition of the custody environment. ICVs are asked to produce an electronic report each time they make a visit and issues raised are recorded and actioned as appropriate
We are seeking new members who would be willing to visit both Nottingham and Mansfield custody suites to check on the conditions and welfare of those in custody. To fiind out more click here
The ICV scheme is included in the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire's Annual Report which can be found here.
