Animal Welfare Volunteers

Play a lead role in animal welfare

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire is responsible for running a volunteer scheme which ensures animals from Nottinghamshire Police's dog section are treated well.

An Animal Welfare volunteer is an unpaid member of the public who makes random, unannounced visits to Nottinghamshire Police dog kennels.

Visits to the kennels are scheduled in pairs, with two volunteers attending Nottinghamshire Joint Headquarters where the dog kennels are located.

Animal Welfare volunteers may also visit dog training sessions and check Nottinghamshire Police vehicles to ensure working conditions for police dogs are of a high standard.

Animal Welfare volunteers are asked to provide an impartial view of the health and wellbeing of police dogs and are also able to report on the accommodation in which police dogs are held.

They make a valuable contribution alongside a number of other volunteers to ensuring that policing in Nottinghamshire is held to the highest standard.

A written report is produced each time a visit is made and any issues raised are recorded and actioned as appropriate through the monitoring arrangements of the Office for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire.
