Thank you event held for organisations keeping Nottinghamshire safe
Organisations who are helping to make Nottinghamshire a safer place were thanked for their achievements in a celebration event.
Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Caroline Henry brought the organisations together at the National Justice Museum in Nottingham, to celebrate the work done in both the city and county.
Multiple organisations were in attendance and were able to hear directly from others whose projects have secured funding from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire.
Over the past three years more than £1.2million of Make Notts Safe grant funding has been awarded to 34 organisations in an effort to make thousands of people feel safer.
The projects fall under the themes of Hidden Harm, Youth Diversion, Hate Crime, Communities and Rural Crime, as well as Community Chest grants for pilot projects.
One organisation in attendance was Imara, which was awarded £57,900 at the end of last year via the Make Notts Safe Innovation Fund for a pilot project which works specifically with families who are affected by harmful sexual behaviour between siblings.
Cath Wakeman OBE, CEO at Imara, believes the funding will help Imara open new doors as well as giving staff members the training they need to be able to handle referrals into the service.
She said: “The issue we’re tackling is very pertinent because so many children are impacted by this particular abuse, but it’s not an issue that is well known.
“We want to work closely with families and in the next 12 months we will be delivering a project through the funding which we’re both very excited by and grateful for.
“The funding is going to be really valuable for us. As a charity we’re very reliant on grant funding and it allows us to set up a project which is piloting at a time when there are a lot of changes with how abuse is being handled.
“We can test out our training and awareness raising techniques, while working with local and national partners to work out what works for families.”
Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Caroline Henry said: “I invited everyone together to recognise and thank these incredible organisations for contribution they have all made to making Nottinghamshire safer.
“I wanted to show the people involved that we wouldn’t be able to keep making people in Nottinghamshire feel safer without the amazing work that they do, so this is a thank you from me.
“Everything we do as an office is all about preventing and responding to crime as well as supporting victims, and these organisations are pivotal in being on the ground and helping to do just that.”
