Statement from Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden following Nottingham protests

6 August 2024

“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the officers of Nottinghamshire Police who ensured that Saturday’s demonstrations were largely peaceful. Their dedication and professionalism were crucial in managing the event effectively.

Despite the unfortunate incident where one officer sustained minor injuries due to the actions of a small minority, it is commendable that the event did not escalate into the widespread unrest seen elsewhere in the country.

I would also like to express my thanks to the additional officers from Derbyshire and Northamptonshire who came to support our force. Their assistance was invaluable in maintaining order and safety during the demonstrations.

We must condemn those who seek to sow division and bring unrest to our city. Their actions are not only unacceptable but undermine the peaceful expression of opinions and the safety of our community.

Rest assured, I am committed to continuing to work closely with the Chief Constable to ensure the safety of everyone in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Together, we will strive to maintain peace and security, making our city a safer place for all.”
