PCC welcomes charges following fatal stabbing

23 April 2025

Charges relating to a fatal stabbing in Bulwell have been welcomed by Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden.

Nottinghamshire Police today confirmed that Gediminas Cepla, aged 43, has been charged with murder and attempted murder following the incident at around 1.45pm on Sunday 20 April at Cinderhill Walk, in which a 59-year-old man died at the scene.

Cepla, of Quarry Avenue, remains in custody and is due to appear before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court this morning (23 April).

A 30-year-old man previously arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder has been released without charge.

PCC Godden, who is responsible for holding Nottinghamshire Police to account and working with partners to drive improvements to community safety, said: “My thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this sad time.

“Incidents like this also affect the wider community, however the action by Nottinghamshire Police has been swift and has resulted in significant charges which I believe will give the local community of Bulwell reassurance.”
