Knife crime victim's question for top police officers
Watch a knife crime victim asking Nottinghamshire Police what they are doing to keep people safe.
Sulayman Cham, from Radford, is one of the first members of the public to be given the chance to ask the Chief Constable Kate Meynell and senior officers a direct question during a meeting where Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden holds the force to account on behalf of the public.
Real people from across Nottinghamshire are being given the chance to record a video message on issues that they want answers to, as part of a revamped Accountability Board – bringing the public closer to the PCC’s public scrutiny role.
Rich Lane, from the business improvement body It’s in Nottingham, also asks a probing question about Nottinghamshire Police’s response to shoplifting and what can be done to stop weapons being taken into licensed premises.
As well as finding out the answers to these questions, you can watch Commissioner Godden quizzing senior officers on the issues of knife crime and police response times.
Superintendent Simon Allardice explains how Nottinghamshire Police has recently had a record-breaking few months for 999 response times, while Chief Inspector Karl Thomas outlines how collaboration with partner agencies is helping to tackle knife crime.
- The next Accountability Board is in January and will include questions and presentations on police efforts to tackle violence against women and girls and ensuring victims receive the help they need. If you would like to ask the Chief Constable a question on those specific issues, please contact mediaopcc@noptts.police.uk or send in a video of you asking your question.
