Two people have been shortlisted for the position of Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police.

The candidates will now be invited to progress to the final stage of the process, which includes psychometric testing, internal and external stakeholder panel meetings and a final panel interview next week.

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Caroline Henry, who is responsible for appointing a Chief Constable, said she was delighted to have attracted three candidates of high calibre and she now looked forward to the next stage in her journey to find the right person to lead the force in its bid to become “outstanding.”

The names of the shortlisted candidates are not being revealed at this stage while the recruitment process is ongoing.

“I am delighted to have had such a great response to the Chief Constable recruitment process and after careful consideration, with the support of the interviewing panel members and my Office, we now have a shortlist of two,” said Commissioner Henry.

“We have taken the views of the workforce and key stakeholders such as partners and community representatives into account, in terms of the qualities they want from a Chief Constable, which is really important.

“The next stage of this process will be a fascinating one as we get the chance to speak to each of the candidates in detail about their vision for the Force, as well as hearing from them about the experience and skills they possess to deliver their vision.

“As Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire, I am looking to appoint an exceptional Chief Constable to take Nottinghamshire Police forward in its next steps to become an outstanding police force.

“My new Chief Constable will do this by ensuring effective and efficient policing, and actively building trust and confidence in all our communities in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

“I want an inspiring leader who will work with me and my Office to deliver the vision and three key objectives set out in my Police and Crime Plan, Make Notts Safe. These objectives are preventing crime, responding efficiently and effectively to local need and supporting victims of crime.”

The recruitment drive comes after current Chief Constable Craig Guildford was confirmed as the new top officer for West Midlands Police, where he is due to start in December.

A preferred candidate for Nottinghamshire Police could potentially be named by the end of this month and confirmed at a Police and Crime Panel confirmation hearing on 21 September.
